A man is pulled from the water at Clovelly Beach in Sydney’s east

An elderly man has been put to sleep after being pulled from the water at one of Sydney’s most popular swimming spots.

The 80-year-old man suffered a medical episode while swimming at Clovelly Beach in the east of the city just before midday on Monday.

Paramedics treated him on the spot and then he was taken to St. Vincent.

It is understood he has been placed in an induced coma while he continues to fight for his life.
