A statue of Captain Cook has been cut down in Melbourne – with four words spray-painted on it

A statue of Captain Cook in a park in Melbourne was vandalized, toppled and defaced ahead of Australia Day.

The memorial in Catani Gardens, St Kilda, was cleanly cut from its stone base at around 3.30am on Thursday, with the words ‘Colony Fall’ spray-painted on the base in red.

Liberal MP Angus Taylor drew attention to vandalism

“Captain Cook was a man of enlightenment. Why would they do that, I mean, great human beings,” he said on Today.

“It’s another one of those acts that, frankly, everyone should condemn.
