A woman ‘raped by Christian Brueckner’ has told a court she is still suffering the physical effects of a brutal sexual assault 20 YEARS later as she is forced to deny making love to her boyfriend in the immediate aftermath of the assault during brutal cross-examination

A former tour guide has told a court how she is still suffering physically from a brutal sexual assault allegedly committed by Christian Brueckner 20 years ago.

Hazel Behan, 40, who has waived anonymity, tearfully described her horrific ordeal at the hands of the convicted rapist and pedophile.

In June 2020, he was sensationally named by German police as the man suspected of abducting Madeline McCann, but has not yet been charged and is currently on trial for unrelated sex crimes.

Ms Behan told a court in Braunschweig, Germany, that she was raped in June 2005 by a masked man who later whipped and filmed her in her apartment in Praia da Roch, just minutes from the Algarve Coast resort of Praia da Luz, where she was in May 2007 the then three-year-old Madeleine was kidnapped.

An Irish former tour guide who was reduced to tears as Brueckner’s defense attorney carried out brutal cross-examination has revealed she is still bleeding from the horrific sexual assault.

The defense team asked if her abuser had used lubricant when he attacked her, leaving members of the public gallery horrified.

Brueckner’s lawyers also argued that DNA evidence proved she had sex with her then-boyfriend Jason Coates directly after the brutal rape.

She said: «I had sex before the incident because we were a couple and I had sex afterwards because we were a couple and we had a baby but I didn’t have sex immediately afterwards.»

Ms Behan contacted police after recognizing a photo of Brueckner, 47, a request for information and a harrowing response when asked why she was sure it was him.

She said: «When you spend time in that situation and there’s nothing else you can see about that person, that’s the only thing you remember, they burned into my skull and I’ll never forget it.»

Ms Behan, from Mullingar, Ireland, added that his eyes were completely illuminated by the black mask and skin-tight clothing he was wearing when he raped her.

She added: «They were so blue… everything so dark that he had one so they worked like lights, they were so bright and I just know them.»

Behan went on to reveal that she was able to use the ordeal of the nightmare in a positive way when she decided to try to help other women in similar situations.

She told Ute chairwoman Insa Engeman: “I visited a rape crisis center and got help I didn’t know I needed at the time.

“It made me think about the many other women who may have been in a similar situation.

«I never felt heard and listened to. One morning I was listening to the radio and on a program that I listened to regularly, a person was talking about a topic completely different from rape. I thought it was great that she was so brave to use something terrible that happened to her and use it in such a positive way.

“So I wrote to the radio station and they invited me to speak on the air. At first I really didn’t want to do it, but then I realized that I would be able to do for other people what this person did for me.

«First it was radio, nothing was planned on TV, but based on the radio, the number of calls to the rape crisis center increased, so I was invited to go on a late show, so I agreed, and there were many reasons why I he wanted to do that to be heard.

Brueckner, who is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping an elderly woman in Portugal in 2006, listened indifferently with no visible expression of emotion.

He is accused of raping three women and committing a series of sexual assaults on children in the Algarve between 2000 and 2017.

The trial continues.
