AFCON 2024: Go for the trophy, Speaker Abbas attacks Super Eagles

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has charged the Super Eagles team to bring home the trophy at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In his message to the Nigerian men’s national team, Abbas said the Super Eagles have the potential to win the AFCON, especially with the number of stars and experienced players in the squad.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 on Saturday at 9pm.

The spokesman noted that football and several other sports have been a powerful tool to unite Nigerians across ethno-religious lines, adding that citizens are showing more patriotism, unity and love through their passion for the national teams.

He also commended the House delegation comprising some members and some former Super Eagles players who are currently in Cote d’Ivoire to encourage the youths to victory.

The chairman urged the relevant government agencies and officials managing the Nigerian team at the AFCON to ensure that their welfare is given top priority, saying that would go a long way to motivating the citizens.

The spokesperson wished the Super Eagles a successful AFCON campaign.
