Ashley Graham calls for more inclusivity in fashion as she promotes Khloe Kardashian’s Good American brand

Ashley Graham pioneered fashion as a plus size model.

The 36-year-old brunette is grateful for the opportunities and success that have come her way, but she also admits that some designers still balk when she asks them to dress her for an event or a red carpet appearance.

On Monday, Good American’s social media channels featured a video of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl talking about inclusivity.

«Good American and I resonate because they’re all about authenticity and who you are and being real,» Ashley said at Good American’s annual open casting call in Los Angeles.

“What does inclusivity mean to me? It means seeing that every single type of person is included,” she added.

«One of my main missions in life is to be kind to everyone and bring representation of all types of beauty and normalize it to the fashion industry and to the world, to the media, to everyone,» she concluded.

Despite her success, Graham still faces discrimination and closed doors when she goes to some designers and fashion houses.

«There are still some designers who have said, ‘Sorry, we can’t, we’re just not going to design something for the larger body,'» she told People at the Good American open casting call in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Lo Bosworth says the female stars of The Hills were put in "compromising situations" while filming the reality show.

«Things have changed tremendously in some ways and just ended in others,» she continued.

Ashely was quick to explain that most of the designers she approaches like to make clothes for her, especially when it’s a newer brand.

But the simple fact is that making clothes for bigger people means using more fabrics and more materials.

«The way the industry is structured now, it costs more money to make clothes that fit and look flattering on larger-bodied people,» she explained.

A lot of the fashion industry is simply not set up to include plus size clothing.

And while Graham acknowledged the industry is changing, she says more progress still needs to be made.

«If you look at the runways, not much has changed,» she said. “If you look at designers, some of them dress different body types, but it’s not the rule.

The mother of three pointed out that while some magazines and media have been reporting bigger bodies more than in the past, «It’s been such a small creep.»
