Aussies cringe at restored footage of 90s TV series: ‘I can’t believe this show got on TV’

An old TV series from the 90s has resurfaced and Aussies can’t believe it even made it onto their screens.

Man O Man aired on Network Seven in 1994 for one season with Phantom of the Opera star Rob Guest as host, Yahoo Lifestyle reported on Monday.

Despite achieving incredible success and stiff competition for rival Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday at Nine, the series was closed in favor of the Gladiators.

The series resurfaced this week when social media users shared a screenshot from the show online and asked if anyone remembered it.

“Does anyone else remember this show? Some kind of dating show where men would be pushed into a pool when rejected,” the original post read.

Someone replied: ‘That wasn’t a dating show. You could see which contestant was the best artist. I’m kidding no. They wouldn’t even try to remake this.’

Another said: ‘I remember being in high school when it came on TV. I kind of saw it. I really can’t believe a show like this made it to TV to be completely honest.

“It never surprised me that a show like this didn’t last. Host Rob Guest said it was rubbish in a lot less words.’

Man O Man was based on the German game show of the same name and even had a UK version which aired for four years.

The series was reportedly rebooted last year with Dr Chris Brown at the helm after he jumped ship from Network Ten to join Seven.

Seven chief content editor Angus Ross was said to be «thrilled to bring back this flagship», TV Tonight reported in April.
