Australian health insurer Medibank under fire for security lapses years after cyber attack


The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) ​​has launched civil criminal proceedings against Medibank in the Federal Court, seeking to hold the company accountable for alleged mishandling of public data.

OAIC stated separately to a data breach at the company in 2022 and claimed that, from March 2021 to October 2022, Medibank «seriously interfered» with the privacy of almost 10 million (9.7 million) Australians.
