Bali: Tourist caught walking on Indonesian island wrapped in bandages

A tourist turned his head and looked like an ‘Egyptian mummy’ while walking down a street in Bali – but there’s a serious explanation.

The injured man, who was wearing a black shirt and shorts with matching sandals, was filmed walking cautiously past shops in Canggu wearing sports bandages on his face, arms and hands, knees, legs and both feet.

The surprising video titled ‘No filter Bali kiss Canggu tattoos’ has since gone viral after being posted on social media.

‘Gentlemen. A scooter accident of the next level,” the man explained in the clip.

“Bali kiss next level. Mom. Luckily still in one piece. Incredible!’

«Bali kiss» is the term used when a tourist falls off a scooter or motorbike on a holiday island.

The clip evoked a wide range of audience reactions from horror to amusement.

«If you’ve been to Bali it’s funny because you see a lot of white people with bandages everywhere and you know it’s from scooter accidents,» commented one.

Another quipped, «That’s more than a kiss, which is at least second base.»

«I think he was actually on his way to audition for the new Mummy movie,» said one.

Others were quick to pick on the tourists’ «stupid» antics, with many claiming that visitors to Thailand were also often seen covered in bandages from similar accidents.

Another wrote: “They (tourists) have never ridden a bike in their lives, but I think since it’s Asia they can handle it. I see so many accidents every day… please take care.”

But the original author of the video later explained that he had since been in contact with the tourist, who told him what actually happened.

‘It was an accident, his phone fell off his bike and he instinctively went to get it and lost control, nothing dangerous or stupid, just went straight onto the tarmac and got a lot of brushes (sic),’ he wrote.

“We agree that the video is funny and will not hurt anyone (thankfully no more serious consequences than a body full of bandages).

«Maybe it’s a funny way to remind people how dangerous cycling can be and to always be very very careful with 100 eyes on the street.»

The poster of the video said he was in contact with a tourist and explained that he wasn't being reckless on his scooter - his phone fell off his bike and when he instinctively went to get it, he crashed.

Many tourists appreciated the reminder to be careful when renting scooters on the island.

“Good for posting this to remind others to be careful. I prefer not to jump on a bike in Bali. Especially when it’s normal to bump elbows and shins in Kuta traffic,” wrote one.

Others were shocked that the tourist was still in one piece after the accident.
