Bernard Tomic leaves the match after a bizarre altercation with his girlfriend mid-match

Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic pulled out of the ATP Challengers tournament mid-match after getting into a bizarre on-court argument with his girlfriend.

Once ranked as high as 17th in the world, Tomic is playing on the Challengers circuit hoping to improve his ranking and return to playing against the world’s best.

But the 31-year-old, now ranked 247th, struggled against Japan’s Yuta Shimizu at the Little Rock Open in Arkansas.

Tomic was down 6-1 in the first set and looked extremely distracted and disinterested throughout.

It was an awkward moment for the fans

The couple argued over how the Australian tennis star fell ill, with Tomic suspecting he had COVID

The former junior world number one complained of illness during the match and called the doctor several times.

«I haven’t seen him move a single ball and he’s missing literally everything,» tennis writer Zachary Cohen wrote on X.

“He left the doctor and told them his girlfriend tested positive for Covid this morning.

Before the start of the second set, the Aussie got into an argument with his girlfriend Keely Hannah, who was sitting in the stands.

«Bernard and his girlfriend are still arguing,» said the ATP Challengers commentator.

“The long and short of it, Bernie said, “You tested positive for COVID today”, the girlfriend said, “No, that was two weeks ago”.

“I didn’t expect to be here commenting on a couple’s argument – but here we are.

«Either way, it’s a bummer for all the fans here who want to see some tennis tonight, but I don’t know that they’re going to get it.»

Tomic eventually retired from the match in the second set due to illness

Tomic decided to withdraw from the match and later tested positive for COVID.

‘Okay, that’s enough. So Bernard Tomic is retiring due to illness,» announced the commentator.

«Well, that’s a very unpleasant way to end, and quite a ‘Bernie’ way to end, isn’t it?» A tough way to go out.

“Tomic, let’s see if he can recover. Then again, how the hell did he win that match a few days ago?’
