Bride and groom slam ‘indecent’ request on wedding invitations: ‘So embarrassing’

An engaged couple have sparked outrage after including a ‘disgusting’ detail on their wedding invitations.

The bride-to-be and her fiance have been together for six years, have a three-year-old child and already ‘started a life together’ before the wedding.

So instead of wedding gifts, the couple prefers money to finance the honeymoon.

«We just skipped steps and got married last so we don’t need wedding gifts,» the bride wrote in a popular Facebook group, sharing a draft of the invitation.

The request read: ‘In lieu of traditional wedding gifts, the bride and groom have requested donations to the honeymoon fund.’

The couple want to send out invitations immediately because the «Great Gatsby meets Fairytale Forest» wedding is in mid-October, but the bride said she’s struggling with the right wording to use.

«One problem is how to ask that we don’t need wedding gifts but would prefer gifts in the honeymoon fund,» she wrote.

«Please help, I’m so lost and I don’t want to sound rude at all.»

She also confirmed that they had already exceeded their wedding budget.

Taking to Facebook, the bride shared a draft of the wedding invitation and said she was struggling with the right wording to use. The little detail caused a stir on Facebook with many slamming the couple for the request (picture)

“It’s so easy to ‘ask’ for money without being tacky. Either you don’t create a registry at all and people read between the lines, or you create a registry that includes the two things you really need,” said another.

“It’s so easy—you don’t say anything. Just insert an invitation card that includes a link and QR code to your honeymoon fund,” added a third.

But others saw no problem with the details of the invitation.

Others were much more confused about the wedding theme.

Last month, another couple divided opinion after sending out wedding invitations with an «aggressive» dress code.

Guests were asked to wear «black cocktail attire» and to ensure that they did not wear signs of any color or white.

The bride and groom outlined the dress code on the invitation and in the following Q&A section. They also asked guests to confirm that they saw the request in the digital RSVP.

Dozens of people were quick to call the tactic «aggressive» and «unnecessary» after pictures of the invitation were posted on a popular Facebook group.
