Bruce Lehrmann’s landlord hands him huge bill after partying hard before judge calls him a rapist

Bruce Lehrmann’s former landlord is trying to slap him with an enormous bill for the «extensive damage» he allegedly caused to her multimillion-dollar Sydney property, claiming she couldn’t rent him again when he left.

Lehrmann, 28, moved out of the luxury three-bedroom home in Balgowlah on Sydney’s northern beaches at the start of April when his $2000-a-week contract with Channel Seven ended.

He then moved into another residence with a friend in North Sydney, but this was short-lived as neighbors were furious he complained about wild parties, ‘screaming’ girls and Tina Turner karaoke.

In May, Balgowlah property owner Lady Gaenor Meakes commenced proceedings in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) against Lehrmann for damages and financial loss because he left three weeks before the end of the lease.

Lehrmann’s name was on the lease, but his accounts were covered by Channel Seven’s finance department.

He did not attend a conciliation session scheduled for Thursday at the Sydney tribunal, organized to help resolve the dispute, because Lady Meakes was unable to locate him to deliver the documents.

Lady Meakes told the tribunal she was unable to rent the house after Lehrmann left because of «cleaning that had to be done», but Daily Mail Australia can reveal the property was re-listed on rental sites on Tuesday for $2,250 a week.

The price has nearly doubled since the lease was first advertised in May 2023 for $1,300. She understood that Channel Seven was paying an increased rate of $2,000 a week to cover Lehrmann’s services.

According to the new rental listing, «no expense was spared.»

“This property has impeccable appearance and stunning views of Manly,” it reads.

“Designed over three levels with an emphasis on space, there are two master bedrooms (both en-suite) and one also includes a wellness area for yoga, an infrared sauna and a dedicated home study/office.

‘Entertaining is easy with the chef’s kitchen and open plan living/dining room, all designed to soak up the expansive views.’

Lady Meakes is married to master sailor Mark Richards, skipper of Wild Oats XI, a nine-time winner of the Channel Seven-sponsored Rolex Sydney – Hobart Yacht Race.

Mr Richards transferred the property to his wife after they bought it in 2019 for $2.4 million. The property is now valued at $4 million.

During Thursday’s hearing, Lady Meakes told the tribunal she tried to send the NCAT documents to Lehrmann’s libel lawyers Mark O’Brien Legal in Sydney, but the package was returned to sender, The Australian reported.

Lehrmann is believed to have fled NSW after losing his Federal Court defamation case against Lisa Wilkinson and Network Ten in April, and has no fixed address.

Lady Meakes was granted permission to serve Lehrmann with the documents via e-mail.

Asked how long she would have to send him the papers, Lady Meakes told the tribunal: «I have quite a lot of documents.»

When contacted for comment on Friday, Lehrmann referred to the national housing crisis and accused Lady Meakes of «kicking the dog when it’s down».

«I can certainly sympathize with everyone who has dealt with eligible landlords in this cost of living crisis,» he told Daily Mail Australia.

Lehrmann is already on the hook for millions of dollars in legal fees after his spectacular defamation loss on April 15th.

He sued over an interview Wilkinson did with Brittany Higgins on The Project in 2021, during which she claimed Lehrmann raped her in Parliament House in 2019.

Lehrmann, who denied the attack, was not named in the broadcast but claimed that friends and colleagues were able to identify him as Ms Higgins’s abuser.

However, Judge Michael Lee found on the balance of probabilities that Lehrmann raped Ms Higgins in the manner she described in her interview.

He now faces bankruptcy to cover the legal bills for the winning parties, which are expected to total more than $2 million.

Lehrmann has until May 31 to appeal Judge Lee’s decision.
