Bruno Fernandes ‘wants to become one of Man United’s highest-paid players’ and ‘will use three team-mates’ as bargaining chip to seal new deal amid Bayern Munich links

Bruno Fernandes is reportedly pushing for a deal that would make him one of Manchester United’s highest-paid players alongside his three teammates.

The Portuguese midfielder has been a rare positive for the Red Devils as they endured a miserable season under Erik ten Hague.

The 29-year-old scored 14 goals in all competitions as United ended the campaign with an FA Cup triumph after beating Manchester City in the final.

Fernandes has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford with an option for a further year and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich in recent weeks.

He signed a new four-year contract in 2022, which currently earns him around £240,000 a week.

However, as reported by the Guardian, Fernandes feels underappreciated and wants to be in the same group as the club’s top earners Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Casemiro.

Rashford earns around £360,000 a week after signing a new contract last summer, while Sancho is on around £300,000. Meanwhile, Casemiro, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, earns around £350,000 a week.

The report claims that Sir Jim Ratcliffe sees Fernandes as United’s best player and the club are not actively trying to sell him.

However, at 29, Fernandes realizes that his next contract should be lucrative. The playmaker is said to be unsure of the direction the club is heading and wants to know who will replace Ten Haga if the Dutchman is sacked.

The United captain stressed his desire to stay at the club last month, writing in The Players’ Tribune.

Fernandes also added that he needs to balance his ambitions.

He wrote: “I love performing at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This was always my last dream.

“I just want my expectations to match the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan they will tell you the same thing. We want to fight for the league. We want to play Champions League football. We want to be in the cup final. That’s the standard. That’s what I want. You all deserve that.” I just want to fight. I want to be here. My family wants to be here.”

Since signing for United in January 2020, Fernandes has made 233 appearances, scoring 79 goals and providing 66 assists.

If United were to lose Fernandes, it would be a significant blow, especially as they look to rebuild.

Despite winning the FA Cup, United endured a difficult campaign following a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League and exit from the Champions League group stage.

United’s budget for the summer transfer window is just over £35m in cash, but the club’s co-owners INEOS are looking to raise more funds by selling players.
