Charlie Colin dies aged 58: Founding member of rock band Train dies in tragic accident after ‘slipping and falling in shower’

Charlie Colin, a founding member of the American pop rock group Train, has died at the age of 58.

His mother confirmed the tragic news that the Drops of Jupiter star «slipped and fell in the shower,» according to TMZ.

The incident is said to have taken place when Colin – the band’s former bassist – was babysitting a friend in Belgium. It is not yet clear when exactly he died.

Colin was reportedly forced to leave the successful group in 2003 due to substance abuse issues.

Singer Pat Monahan said at the time: ‘Charlie is an incredible bass player but he was in a lot of pain and the way he dealt with it was very painful for everyone else around him.’

Monahan then reportedly called a band meeting to choose between himself or Colin.

«They weren’t happy with the selection.» It was clear to them that I had put them in a very difficult situation,» he said at the time.

The ultimatum came after Colin was «a mess» during a live show in Oregon, according to Monahan.

Speaking about his departure, Colin said during an appearance at Delphine’s Circle last year: “There were a lot of things leading up to my departure, but it really escalated into this.

“We never took a break. We took our tour bus to the parking lot of the recording studio for our second and third record. We did our one and a half record in Philadelphia… We just never stopped. It’s one of those things where you feel it’s too good to be true. Most bands have a lifespan of several years.’

However, they achieved further success with the hit Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me) from the 2001 album of the same name.
