Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says it «wouldn’t be the end of the world» if he left the club this summer as the decision depends on his happiness as much as the owners.

Mauricio Pochettino says it would not be «the end of the world» if he left Chelsea this summer and revealed on Friday that he will make his own decisions about his future when this season ends.

Ahead of Saturday’s game with Nottingham Forest, the 52-year-old Argentine says his stay at Stamford Bridge is not just about whether the hierarchy are happy with him. It will also depend on whether he is satisfied with them and whether he will also have to come to a conclusion.

Pochettino is due to sit down with his bosses at the end of the season but opened the door to an exit this summer in his pre-Forest press conference.

«If we are happy, perfect,» said Pochettino. “But it’s not just about whether the owners or the sporting directors are happy. If we are happy, you have to ask us too, because maybe we are not happy and we accept the situation and need to separate.

«This is not the first time that the coaching staff has decided not to continue at the end of the season. But it’s always the other way around at this end.

«It’s always the owners or the sporting directors. They can say tomorrow. Maybe I can say, ‘I want to leave’. There are two sides to the decision. Because Chelsea are not happy or the owners are not happy or the sporting directors are not happy.

Pochettino signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year upon his arrival at Chelsea.

No date has been set for his summer sit-down with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart and potential representatives of the owners, but it is expected to take place in the days following their final game against Bournemouth.

Chelsea have three games to secure European football against Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth.
