Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana is being eyed by Sevilla on loan after spending the first half of the season at Union Berlin.

The 21-year-old is likely to be recalled from his Bundesliga stint after struggling to establish himself.

In his 17 appearances for the team in all competitions, the centre-forward has scored just twice and provided one more assist.

The Ivory Coast star has been dropped from his national team’s AFCON squad and will instead be looking to hit the ground running at his potential new club in early 2024.

Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde for £8m at the end of December 2022, but failed to see any proper game time during his first season at Stamford Bridge, making just four appearances for Chelsea’s senior team.

A further two appearances for the club’s youth team in two Premier Leagues saw the striker on target, but he was moved on a season-long loan to Union Berlin last summer.

But his time in the German capital was turbulent, with Fofana suspended for a week in October after falling out with head coach Urs Fischer, despite publicly apologizing.

In a public apology on Instagram, Fofana wrote: “After my behavior during my departure from the pitch, I wanted to apologize to the club, the coach, my teammates and the fans.

But the manager was far from pacified and the player’s behavior saw him suspended for a week.
