Conners is cancelled! Spinoff to END with shortened season seven…six years after Roseanne Barr was fired from reboot over racist remark

It’s over for The Conners on ABC.

The network has canceled the Roseanne spinoff effective after its upcoming seventh season.

The final season is expected to be six episodes long, making the series a total of 106 episodes after the series finale on May 22.

The Conners premiered in 2018 after Roseanne Barr was fired from the reboot of her sitcom of the same name after making racist remarks about former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett.

The series was rebranded and Roseanne’s character was killed off before the first episode aired.

The ending may be bittersweet for John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert, who have played Dan Conner, Jackie Harris and Darlene Conner since 1998.

The Conners was very popular with viewers and remained the most-watched sitcom for its entire run.

When ABC made the announcement, the network released the first «farewell season» promo, which featured storylines from Roseanne and The Conners.

Both shows reached the 100-episode milestone, making it rare for a sitcom series to have two series that both hit the 100-episode mark.

«You’ve been part of this family for years,» the promo says, mixing footage from both shows. ‘After 6 seasons say goodbye there.’

It’s Sara Gilbert, who has led the series with the network all along. She was involved in rebranding the show after Barr’s firing.

And she told the network last year that she wanted enough notice of the cancellation to give the series a proper ending, Deadline reported.

The outlet asked executive producer/showrunner Bruce Helford last month, before the renewal was announced, if he had a series ending in mind.

“We have the final episode, which could be one or the other. We love it,» he said, calling the episode «unexpected» and «emotional.»

But that hasn’t happened yet, and America’s favorite working-class family will return for another season.

Viewers can enjoy the show for another season — but if it were to be canceled, the show had a scene in its pocket to add to the season finale and turn it into a series finale.

The seventh and final season of The Conners is expected to air in 2024-2025.

ABC has also renewed Abbott Elementary and is currently the only other sitcom on the network’s schedule.

Gina Rodriguez’s Not Dead Yet has been canceled after two seasons.
