The couple has previously spoken openly about two tragic miscarriages within four months of each other.

Sam and his Briony shared that they were expecting twins, but unfortunately lost one due to Vanishing Twin Syndrome.

In a new interview, they shared their joy at the pregnancy, saying it was ‘very bittersweet’.

Briony said Ok! magazine: “We were excited and grateful because we always wanted a healthy baby. Then we started thinking

“We could have had two… Will the living twin always wonder, “What if?” and feel alone?” We found ourselves wondering what could have been while being grateful for what we have. «

Their sad loss was caused by a condition called Vanishing Twin Syndrome, which occurs when one fetus stops growing and the mother’s body absorbs the embryo.

Sam and Briony learn they are expecting non-identical twins after the midwife discovers the remaining amniotic sac during an ultrasound scan.

Briony said: “If we hadn’t had an early scan I wouldn’t have even known. But it does explain why I was so sick and tired this time compared to my other pregnancies.

During a TV appearance on Loose Women in August, Briony stopped short of talking about her previous miscarriage.

She appeared on the show alongside her actor husband after sharing in July how she suffered two miscarriages within just four months of each other.

She bravely told the chat show how neither pregnancy made it to 12 weeks and that even though it was hard, other women sharing their stories helped her heal.

On why she decided to share news of her losses, she said: «Without hearing other people’s stories, it would have been much harder for me.»

“I had hundreds and hundreds of messages to share their similar experiences. I felt very glad I did. There is support and it has helped me to know that I am not alone.”
