Donald Trump hints he might bring Nikki Haley on his «team» despite a «disgusting» campaign and reveals the vice-presidential pick will be «secret» until the convention.

Former President Donald Trump called Nikki Haley a «capable person» to be part of his «team» in his first comments since her surprise revelation that she would be voting for him.

On a day when Trump sought to demonstrate the expansion of his political coalition at a Bronx rally, Trump spoke to Haley, whom he derided as «bird brain» during the campaign.

«I think he’s going to be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts,» Trump told News 12.

“I appreciated what she said. You know, we had an ugly campaign. It was pretty ugly. But he’s a very capable person and I’m sure he’ll be in our team in some form. Absolutely,” Trump said.

Trump spoke on a day when he touted «unity» in the party, with nearly all of his primary rivals behind him, even as some launched sharp criticism of his political vision and his character.

That includes Haley’s past comments ripping politicians who bow to pressure.

«Many of the same politicians who are now publicly embracing Trump are privately terrified of him,» she said in February in Greenville, South Carolina. «He knows what a disaster he has been and will continue to be for our party. He’s just too afraid to say it out loud.’

“Well, I’m not afraid to speak hard truths out loud. I don’t feel the need to kiss the ring. I’m not afraid of Trump’s retribution. I am not looking for anything from him.’

Trump did not mention Haley when asked to name the top three candidates to be his running mate, although he named other former critics.

Trump mocked Carson for his background in 2016 and then put him in the Cabinet. When they clashed, he insulted Rubio as «little Marco». «My God, what an idiot,» Vance tweeted in 2016, even though he’s now a staunch Trump supporter, organizing fundraising events for Trump in Silicon Valley. Štefánik once blasted Trump’s comments about Muslims during the 2016 campaign, but this week filed an ethics complaint against the judge who oversaw the trial of Stormy Daniels.

Haley was Trump’s last GOP challenger in 2024 and won millions of «zombie» votes even after dropping out of the race, giving Trump an incentive to try to court his supporters.

She urged him to do so in her remarks to the Hudson Institute on Wednesday, which she later released.

“I don’t know what Nikki’s calculations are. I hope she’s not thinking about being his vice president,» former UN ambassador John Bolton, who emerged as a critic of Trump in a book after leaving the administration, told CNN.
