Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford have returned to training at Carrington ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Mail Sport revealed earlier this week that Martinez was targeting the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25 and was hoping to get some minutes in the remaining three Premier League games, possibly right away at Arsenal.

Martinez has only played in 11 games this season. He needed a second operation on a broken metatarsal bone, suffered knee ligament damage against West Ham four games into his return in February and then strained his calf in training after returning for one game against Brentford in March.

The former Ajax man’s absence was felt even more strongly as Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala were also sidelined.

Evans made his return alongside emergency centre-back Casemiro at Crystal Palace on Monday but it did not go well as United suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.

The Hag will be hoping Varane or Maguire can return in time to play alongside Martinez against City at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Rashford has not played since limping out of the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry and has missed the last three games against Sheffield United, Burnley and Palace.

The England striker is vying for his 400th career appearance for United against Arsenal, after making his Premier League debut and scoring twice against the Gunners in 2016.
