Erik the Hag booed by fans as Jadon Sancho reaches Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund – while Man United ‘don’t even get Conference League football’ after 4-0 loss at Crystal Palace

Erik the Hag was mocked mercilessly by fans on social media after Jadon Sancho – who was frozen out at Manchester United – reached the Champions League final.

The Hag kicked Sancho out of training or eating with his team-mates after the September rift and did not play again before joining Dortmund on loan in January.

Sancho publicly called Ten Haga a liar over the reasons behind his 3-1 defeat at Arsenal in September and refused to apologise.

The manager’s principled handling of the fallout has won plaudits, proving he trusts his own authority, even over the £73m prodigy.

But that didn’t stop troublemakers on social media from going wild and mocking The Hag, whose fortunes differed from those of Sancho.

Manchester United are eighth in the Premier League and have just lost 4-0 to Crystal Palace; Sancho is a rejuvenated man and one game away from winning the Champions League.

“Jadon Sancho is coming back to England to play in the Champions League final, while Erik Ten Hag’s boys won’t even get Conference League football next season as it is. Interpret as you will,” wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.

«If Jadon Sancho apologized to Erik ten Hag, he would be a bench player in the worst United team in 30 years instead of playing in the Champions League final,» said another.

“Jadon Sancho reached the Champions League final a day after Erik ten Hag saw his team lose 4-0. Shit,” wrote one.

«Erik the Hag pushed Sancho out for Antony just to get to the Champions League final,» said one.

«Jadon Sancho goes to the UCL final while Erik Ten Hag is on a losing streak with no hope of European football next season,» one commented on a photo of José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola laughing.

Manchester United are eighth in the Premier League and if they fail to climb the table they will record their worst finish since the 1989-90 season.

Sancho’s stats on loan at Dortmund – three goals and two assists in 21 games – may not look particularly inspiring, but anyone who watched him saw a man invigorated.

Dortmund is where he made his name from 2017 to 2021 and he is rebuilding his reputation there one game after another.

Picking up top honors would only cement the affection the Yellow Wall has for him – and leave United fans wondering why they never saw the best of him.
