Erik the Hag steps up to fight and insists he has ‘no doubts’ he can turn Man United around… as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos face a decision on whether to sack the Dutchman

Erik ten Hag insists he has «no doubt» he is the man to turn Manchester United’s fortunes around, despite Arsenal’s 14th Premier League loss of the season.

There are plenty of question marks over the future of the Ten Hag after the end of this current season, but the Dutchman believes his team are showing the «right spirit» even when things are not going well.

«I have no doubt about that,» he said when asked if he could be the man to spur United to promotion.

“As human beings and in my experience, it happens every three months when you’re not in the right position.

“But for the most part, this team has the right spirit and follows the rules and principles of the game, even if they have to adapt to their positions.

Erik the Hag is adamant that he is still the man to turn things around at Manchester United

“I can only be happy and it’s a big credit to this team that they did what they could and fought.

Pressed on how much of the blame he must shoulder for the poor performances, The Hag reiterated that his hands were tied with so many players unavailable for selection.

«Every manager can be better, but I’ve also been here for two years and once had a full group of players,» he told his press conference.

“With so many injuries you can’t progress with the team in certain key areas, it’s like swimming with your hands on your back and you have to keep your head above water, that’s what we’re trying to do.

«We’re still in the cup final, that’s good. But if you want to progress in the team, you need fit players and you see our opponent today, they only had one not 100% match player and we had so many.»

United played well for big spells, even though Arsenal weren’t at their best, but they didn’t work goalkeeper David Ray close enough.

Service for Rasmus Hojlund was once again minimal, while Alejandro Garnacho was left shouldering all the attacking responsibility, especially when Amad Diallo was forced out through injury.

The Hag believes fans can empathize with United’s plight this season, which has been decimated by more than 60 separate cases of injury or illness.

«They understand where we are and where this club is,» he told Sky Sports.

“We have so many injuries in key areas that (the fans) don’t get what they deserve, but they understand that and that’s why they get behind the team.

«I think that’s why they’re with us, we’re united and hopefully we can repay them in the future.»
