Great Britain’s Bake Off star Ruby Bhogal has announced her engagement to TV presenter James Stewart after an ‘unromantic’ proposal in New York

Former Great British Bake Off star Ruby Bhogal has confirmed her engagement to long-term partner James Stewart – but admits the moment was ruined because she had food poisoning.

Bhogal, 34, accepted the proposal after BBC presenter Stewart got down on one knee during a recent trip to New York.

Bhogal revealed on Instagram on Monday morning that he proposed to her more than three weeks ago, but decided to tell all of her family before making the engagement public. …

She wrote: «I’ve been deceptively hiding my hand in recent videos because it took me about 3 weeks to tell most of my family while it took James all of 3 minutes.»

But Bhogal, a 2018 Bake Off finalist, was forced to cut the proposal short as she was struck down with a sudden bout of illness.

Former Great British Bake Off star Ruby Tandoh has confirmed her engagement to long-term partner James Stewart following his surprise proposal.

She added: “I wish we had a romance story but the food poisoning kicked in about 5 minutes before he was going to propose and I was about to have a bridesmaid moment across the street… so yay for love and yay for uncooked chicken in NYC.

‘I love this life (time to start planning a big FAT Indian wedding but all I can think about is CAKE, am I right?!)’

Before his proposal, Stewart pranked Bhogal by secretly hiding the ring in plain sight while she obliviously went about her day.

In a series of Instagram posts, she can be seen brushing her teeth, sleeping on a plane and walking through Central Park while the presenter repeatedly flashes her ring without noticing.
