Hundreds gather at funeral of bullied 10-year-old Sammy Teusch, who killed himself after being teased about ‘teeth and glasses’

Hundreds of mourners have turned out for the funeral of a 10-year-old boy who took his own life in a tragic case of bullying after being relentlessly teased at school.

Sammy Teusch killed himself on May 5 after years of brutal bullying because of his teeth and the glasses he wore. His distraught parents say they have repeatedly complained to his school but have been ignored.

Hundreds of distraught parents and friends supported them at their son’s funeral in Greenfield, Indiana, on Tuesday.

The funeral procession included a motorcade of more than a hundred motorcyclists, all of whom showed support for the tragic child.

Sammy’s motorcycle escort was organized by Iron Sharpens Iron Motorcycle Ministry, who said they were «honoured» to be taking part.

Before he was laid to rest, a service was held in a nearby auditorium, where his loved ones shared fond memories of the boy and his family and the pastor read a final prayer.

Neighbor Andrew McIntosh delivered the young man’s eulogy and recalled how Sammy had become fast friends with his son Judah after he moved into the neighborhood.

«There was a handsome little boy right there in my hallway who I swear could have been pulled right out of an Andy Griffith episode or a Norman Rockwell painting,» he said, according to the Greenfield Reporter.

«I knew straight away that my son had become a good friend,» he said, adding that the 10-year-old seemed to be popular with local children and was often seen with «the biggest smile on his face.»

«He just looked up at me in a sweat, those glasses pulled up on his cheeks over a smile that was too big for his little face,» McIntosh said.

“But when he smiled, and I mean really smiled, it seemed to drain the darkness from every corner of the room.

A candlelight vigil is also planned for Friday in Greenfield as the small town recovers from Sammy’s tragic suicide.

The harassment escalated to a recent incident on a school bus where he was beaten, and Sammy’s parents claimed they told teachers and school staff about the bullying twenty times, but no action was taken.

His father, Sam, told WTHR, “At first they made fun of him because of his glasses, then they made fun of his teeth. It took long.»

‘I held him in my arms. I did a thing that no father should do, and whenever I close my eyes, that’s all I see.’

The abuse then turned physical, Sam added: “He was beaten up on the school bus and the kids broke his glasses and everything.

«I called the school and I was like, ‘What are you doing with this? It’s getting worse and worse and worse. And it doesn’t get better. In fact, it’s getting worse.’

Speaking to 21live, his grandmother Cynthia said: “They can’t just say they have zero tolerance because that doesn’t mean there’s zero tolerance for bullies.

“Their zero tolerance means they are not responsible for it. People trust their children in school, but now that trust is crumbling.»

“We learned of his death on Sunday afternoon and sent our crisis team to Greenfield Intermediate and Greenfield Central Junior High School (where he has two siblings) to start the week.
