Is this the debut of the Nothing Phone 3?

Expected to debut in the coming months, the Nothing Phone 3 will be differentiated as a flagship unlike its predecessor, the Nothing Phone 2a, which hit stores earlier this year.

I recently advised you to consider any enticing mid-range Android phones currently entering the market until the launch of the Nothing Phone 3. Specifically, I suggested you hold off on buying the Galaxy A55 (if available) and the Pixel 8a until you had a chance to assess the capabilities of the Nothing Phone 3.

The expected flagship may come with a lower price tag than its counterparts, though it could potentially sacrifice on-chip specs. There is speculation that the Nothing Phone 3 could run on Qualcomm’s rather confusing Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, which is different from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Looks like we won’t have to wait long to see her Nothing Phone 3. Carl Pei, the company’s CEO, may have teased images of it while showing off Nothing OS’s UI updates via tweets. These images could potentially reveal the Nothingv Phone 3. Interestingly, the design detail depicted in the renders raises the question of whether Nothing is going to make an iPhone 16-like move before Apple unveils its 2024 flagship.

We’re on the verge of seeing the Nothing Phone 3, as Carl Pei, the CEO, may have teased images on Twitter showing off the Nothing OS UI changes, hinting at the phone’s features. The design details in the renders raise interesting questions and suggest that Nic could make a bold move similar to the iPhone 16 before Apple unveils its 2024 flagship.

It could be the Nothing Phone 3 design

See below for the images Pei posted on X. They primarily showcase software changes for both dark and light modes. However, ignore the colors, widget placement, shapes and sizes on the screen and focus instead on the right side of the phone.

You will see something unusual – an element that is missing from any of the three phone models that have been introduced so far. The 1, 2 and 2a phones all have three buttons: two on the left side and one on the right side.

In Pei’s tweets, the phone shows a fourth button located on the right side, directly below the power button. Currently, its purpose and functionality remain unclear.

As for the upcoming reveal of the phone’s design, Nothing’s revealed nothing substantial. Consider this: what you’re seeing is an all-screen display with a punch-hole camera and thin bezels. This design is common among Android phones, including previous models from Nothing.

The additional side button and the design of the phone’s back panel will serve as distinguishing features of the phone 3.

My mention of the iPhone 16 was not accidental. There is a general expectation that Apple will introduce a new iPhone with a button located on the right side, commonly known as the Capture button. Leaks suggest that its features will be closely tied to the iPhone’s camera.

Let me also point out the Action button included in the iPhone 15 Pros, capable of activating various applications and shortcuts. This Action button is expected to be included in all iPhone 16 models.

You might be surprised that nothing takes cues from Apple in this case. Although it may seem that way, it is worth noting that iPhone 16 has not yet been officially announced. Furthermore, the Nothing Phone 3 is slated to hit stores before the launch of the iPhone 16 models. However, there is no problem with adopting this particular design, especially if the other button on the Phone 3 serves a similar function, such as launching the camera.

Since Nothing tends to hint at the phone’s features before the official launch, it’s likely that we’ll get more clues about the Phone 3 in the coming weeks.
