It’s on! Two Biden vs Trump debates are SET: Rivals agree to prime-time televised showdowns in fierce battle between campaigns … but will there be more?

President Joe Biden and his rival Donald Trump agreed on two presidential debates to be held in June and September in a stormy morning filled with social media taunts.

CNN will host the first debate on June 27. It will be the first prime-time televised showdown of the 2024 general election.

The two men also agreed to a second debate on September 10 with ABC News.

It all started when Biden threw down the gauntlet by suggesting two debates in a video message aimed at the Republican nominee, telling Trump to «go ahead, make my day.»

The former president accepted and countered the offer to meet two more times before the November election.

«Crooked Joe Biden is the WORST debater I’ve ever faced – he can’t string two sentences together!,» Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I am ready and willing to discuss Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September. I would strongly recommend more than two debates and a very large venue for excitement purposes, even though Biden is said to be afraid of crowds – only because he doesn’t get one. Just tell me when, I’ll be there. «Let’s get ready for the Rumble!!!»

President Joe Biden challenged Donald Trump to two debates

Trump also told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that he would be there but doubted his Democratic rival would be.

«I wonder if he’ll show up or not because he also challenged me to golf, he can’t hit the ball 50 yards,» he said.

The former president also told Fox News Digital that “the proposed June and early September dates are completely acceptable to me. I will arrange my own transport.’

Biden took another swipe at Trump by accepting the September debate.

“I have also received and accepted an invitation to a debate hosted by the ABC on Tuesday 10 September. Trump says he will provide the transportation himself. I will also bring my plane. I plan to keep it for the next four years,” he wrote on X.

And in his original bid, Biden mocked Trump by saying «I hear you’re off on Wednesday.»

Trump, who is in the fourth week of his money laundering trial in New York, must be in court to testify. Wednesday is the only day when the court is not in session.

“It is my great honor to host the CNN Debate against Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST PRESIDENT in the history of the United States and a real threat to democracy, on June 27th. Likewise, I accept the ABC News debate against Crooked Joe on September 10th. Thank you, DJT!,» he wrote on the Pravda social network.

The former president complained that he was stuck in court instead of on the campaign trail. The trial could end next week.

Biden proposed that their first presidential debate be held in late June and the second in September before early voting begins. In July, he proposed a vice-presidential debate.

“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he has not shown up for the debate. Now he acts like he wants to debate me. Well, make your day, I’ll even do it twice. So let’s pick the days Donald. I heard you have Wednesday off,” he says in the video.

Trump’s team accepted and countered with an offer for two more debates.

«We are proposing a debate in June, a debate in July, a debate in August and a debate in September, in addition to the vice presidential debate,» said Trump co-managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.

«We believe there should be more than just two opportunities for the American people to hear more from the candidates themselves,» they noted. «We believe the American people deserve more than what the Biden administration has to offer.»

Trump’s campaign pushed for as many debates as possible, believing they would help their candidate and make Biden look old and weak.

Biden’s offer has a catch.

Biden proposes to use a different system than in the past. He wants news organizations to organize the debates and not use the traditional system overseen by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

His campaign informed the committee on Wednesday that Biden would not participate in their debates.

«The purpose of this letter is to advise that the President will not participate in the debates announced by the Commission on Presidential Debates in 2024 and plans to participate in debates hosted by news organizations,» campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote.

O’Malley Dillon points to the committee’s debate schedule, where debates take place after early voting begins.

He also complains that the debates have become «huge spectacles with large audiences».

Biden’s re-election team has expressed concern that the committee has failed to enforce the rules in the 2020 debate, particularly when it comes to Trump.

In their first debate, hosted by Fox News, Trump repeatedly interrupted Biden during Biden’s allotted speaking time and didn’t stop — even when host Chris Wallace urged him to.

At one point, Biden said to Trump, ‘Will you be quiet, man?’

In her letter, O’Malley Dillon noted, «The commission includes rules that candidates have been asked to follow, yet has been unable or unwilling to enforce those rules in the 2020 debates.»

It outlines a plan where the debate would be hosted by the news network that «hosted the 2016 Republican primary debate featuring Donald Trump and the 2020 Democratic primary debate featuring President Biden.»

Networks that meet this requirement include CBS News, ABC News, CNN and Telemundo.

The moderator would be «selected by the broadcast host from among their regular staff to avoid a ‘ringer’ or partisan.»

The Biden campaign also wants time to be split evenly, with the candidate’s microphone only on when it’s his turn.

That should prevent Trump from talking about Biden, as he has done many times in their 2020 meetings.

Plus, Team Biden wants it to be just the two candidates and the moderator in the room. That means no personal audiences — Trump feeds off the cheers of the crowd — and no third-party candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

If Kennedy reaches 15 percent in the national poll, he would qualify for the committee debates.

The CNN debate meets the president’s demands. It will be just Trump and Biden on stage at CNN headquarters in Atlanta with no audience, the network said in a news release.

And a candidate’s name must appear on enough state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold to win the presidency — barring independent candidates.

The network said it would announce the host of the debate at a later date.

“Presidents Trump and Biden are colluding to lock America into a head-to-head matchup that 70% say they don’t want. They are trying to exclude me from their debate because they are afraid I would win,” he wrote on X.

Donald Trump says he’ll debate Joe Biden ‘anytime, anywhere’

«We believe the first debate should take place in late June, after Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial is likely to be over and after President Biden returns from meeting world leaders at the G7 summit,» O’Malley Dillon says of their program of debates.

«The second presidential debate should be held in early September at the start of the fall election season, early enough to influence early voting but not so late as to require candidates to leave the campaign trail during the critical period of late September and October . ‘

Previously, Biden was tight-lipped about debating Trump, saying in March that whether he debates Trump «depends on his behavior.»

In addition to Trump’s interruption, Biden and his team have been furious over the failure to enforce COVID protocols around the first presidential debate, which took place during the height of the pandemic.

Hope Hicks, Trump’s top aide, tested positive for COVID before the debate. Trump said after the debate that he was positive. The second debate was canceled because it was scheduled for a time when Trump would still be considered contagious.

Trump said he was willing to debate Biden «anytime, anywhere.»

The commission scheduled their hearings on September 16, October 1 and October 9.

The Trump campaign also complained about the data.

In April, Trump campaign co-managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita wrote to the commission asking for earlier debates, noting that «voting is starting earlier and earlier, and as we saw in 2020, when tens of millions of Americans have already voted, the first debate.»

«On the date of the first proposed debate, September 16, 2024, more than 1 million Americans are likely to vote,» Wiles and LaCivita wrote. ‘By the date of the second proposed debate, October 1, 2024, the number of Americans likely to vote will be over 3 million, an increase of 225%.’

The commission has moderated the presidential debates since 1988.

Joe Biden's team has expressed concern about the commission's failure to enforce the rules in the 2020 debate, particularly with Donald Trump repeatedly interrupting Biden's speaking time — over both men at the September 2020 debate in Cleveland.

In the 2020 contest, Biden and Trump debated twice.

More than 73 million people watched the two men during their first debate — down from the 84 million who watched Trump take on Hillary Clinton in 2016.

However, presidential debates are typically among the most-watched telecasts of the year, surpassing events such as the Oscars.

One television network is the host, and the event is usually simulcast on every major cable and broadcast network.

If none takes place, this year’s election could be the first in 50 years without a general election debate.
