Jared Goff agrees to $212 MILLION, four-year extension with Detroit Lions – making him higher-paid quarterback than Patrick Mahomes!

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has agreed to a four-year, $212 million extension, making him the highest-paid player in franchise history.

Last season, Goff led the Lions to the brink of the Super Bowl before the team lost the Conference Championship game to the San Francisco 49ers.

Under the terms of the contract, Goff will make $53 million a year — more than Patrick Mahomes is currently taking home at $45 million per season for his 10-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last week, Lions general manager Brad Holmes said a new extension for Goff was a high priority for him.

«He’s earned the extension,» Holmes said in a radio interview with 97.1 The Ticket. ‘It’s important.

«It is a high priority for us. Both sides work really, really hard. These things just take time.’

Goff is entering the final season of the four-year, $134 million deal he signed before being traded to Detroit in the QB swap that sent Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams. The expansion has been in the works for months.

The former No. 1 overall pick, Goff, who will turn 30 in October, averaged $33.5 million a year on his current contract, while the market has exploded since massive offers raised the bar above $50 million a season last season.

The highest paid quarterback in terms of average salary per season is Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals at $55 million.

He has $1.01 million more in guaranteed salary than the Los Angeles Chargers gave Justin Herbert, whose AAV is $52.5 million, in the same quarter but just ahead of Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles) and Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens).
