Jesse Marsch almost takes coaching role for $1 million, winner takes all ‘The Soccer Tournament’ before taking job in Canada, former USMNT star reveals

Before accepting Canada’s offer to become its next men’s national team head coach, Jesse Marsch considered coaching the 7-on-7 team in the $1 million tournament.

That’s according to his friend and (now former) podcast co-host Jimmy Conrad, who is suiting up for Kwik Goal FC this week in the soccer tournament, a competition featuring the scores of current and former pros from 48 teams.

«So before he left to take the Canadian job, we asked him to coach here, our team,» Conrad told reporters Monday.

«He thought about it, but I think he started to get upset about some of the offers, whether it was for the national team or at club level.

Marsch eventually accepted the Canadian job and has a busy summer ahead of him.

Canada will face the Netherlands and France in two friendlies before taking on Argentina, Peru and Chile in a packed Copa America group.

«I think he’s going to do great,» said Conrad, who co-hosts CBS Sports Golazo Network’s «Call it What You Want» podcast (with Charlie Davies and previously) Marsch.

“I think (Marsch) knows what he’s getting into, I think he’s a fantastic person and it will show in spades.
