Lionel Messi and Inter Miami kicked off the next leg of the club’s pre-season with a special on-board birthday party for new arrival Luis Suarez.

The former Barcelona forward turned 37 on Wednesday and was greeted with a cake as his teammates sang «Happy Birthday» in Spanish.

Having already played in El Salvador and Texas, the Herons are scheduled to play twice in Saudi Arabia next week – including a clash with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr on February 1.

And Inter Miami posted a picture of their talisman Messi boarding the team plane to Riyadh on Wednesday, captioning the X post «MIA (plane emoji) RUH», which stands for King Khalid International Airport.

Messi grinned as he carried a bright orange bag onto the plane, while Jordi Alba showed off Louis Vuitton luggage.

Miami’s players will have a lot packed as they won’t return home for several weeks.

Luis Suarez was serenaded by his teammates as they wished him a happy 37th birthday

The Herons face Al-Hilal on January 29 in Riyadh before facing Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr just three days later on Thursday, February 1.

Three days after that, Messi and his team-mates will head east to face the Hong Kong Premier League’s best team on February 4.

And the Herons then take on Vissel Kobe at Japan’s National Stadium in Tokyo on February 7 before finally heading home.

In total, the club flies over 23,000 miles in its preseason (including El Salvador and Texas), as shown in a video from Front Office Sports showed

The Herons will then host one more pre-season test at home before the start of the MLS season as Messi reunites with his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys on February 15.

Real Salt Lake will visit South Florida on February 21st to open the regular season.

Miami failed to score in its first two preseason tests, drawing 0-0 with El Salvador and losing 1-0 to FC Dallas.
