Mahindra & Mahindra partners with MSDE for Drone Didi Yojana, Empowering Women in Agriculture

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has embarked on an innovative journey to empower women in agriculture through the flagship ‘Drone Didi Yojana’. This ground-breaking initiative aims to train 15,000 women across India as drone pilots for agricultural activities, thereby fostering new opportunities in the agricultural sector.

Based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Mahindra & Mahindra and MSDE, two pilot programs will be conducted at National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI) in Hyderabad and Noida. The aim is to train 500 women exclusively in the operation of drones for agricultural purposes.

Dr. Anish Shah, CEO and Group Director, Mahindra Group, highlighted the importance of this initiative and said, “In line with our Rise philosophy, the Mahindra Group is committed to empowering women with the skills necessary to join the workforce and achieve financial independence. The Didi Yojana drone pilot represents a first-of-its-kind convergence of women, agriculture and technology.

Echoing this sentiment, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, MSDE said, “We are excited to announce our partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., leveraging their agricultural expertise for comprehensive training. This collaboration advances our mission of upskilling women for nation building, particularly through the successful implementation of the Drone Didi program in empowering women in emerging fields.

The syllabus, approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), is of 15 days duration and will be imparted by Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) instructors at NSTI centres. The program will cover basic aspects such as fertilizer sowing, crop monitoring and seed sowing using drones.

Mahindra Group will provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment for training, including simulation machines, drones, simulator software and trainers. MSDE will use its network to mobilize the participation of local women’s self-help groups and NGOs, thereby ensuring citizen engagement.

The results of these pilot projects will inform the expansion of the Didi Yojana drone to other NSTIs and ITIs across the country, furthering the goal of empowering women in agriculture through technological innovation.
