Matt Shirvington’s bizarre celebration after Sunrise star filmed his first scene for beloved soap Home and Away

Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington celebrated his Home and Away acting debut with a bizarre ritual.

The Sunrise presenter, 45, shared a segment of the breakfast show with Natalie Barr which showed a behind-the-scenes look at their guest star in the beloved Australian soap.

Shirvington was shown filming his beach scenes with several familiar faces from Summer Bay, including veteran actor Ray Meagher (who plays Alf Stewart).

«I really enjoyed working with you, I think it went well,» said Shirvo Meagher.

«Mate, it was fantastic, the pleasure is mine. The only thing I’d like to say is Home and Away, when you’ve just finished your first attempt, we have a tradition where people have to run into the water fully clothed immediately afterwards,» the actor told the soap.

«Okay,» said Matt, who was running into the sea in a white shirt and brown pants.

Returning from an impromptu ocean dive, Meagher turned to the camera and asked, “He’s a runner. He can swim, can’t he?’

The breakfast TV star will star as himself in the story with Catherine Van-Davies, who plays Stevie Marlow in the long-running series.

Matt’s Sunrise star Natalie Barr, 56, will also appear in the episode, which is due to air on Wednesday at 7pm.
