Meesho CPO Kirti Varun Avasarala resigns, marking second major departure

Meesho’s Chief Product Officer, Kirti Varun Avasarala, is set to leave the e-commerce startup after a four-year tenure. This is the second high-level departure at the Bengaluru-based company in three months, following the departure of chief experience officer Utkrisht Kumar in October. Avasarala, with over 15 years of experience, has previously worked at companies like Flipkart and Amazon, Meesho’s direct competitors.

Utkrishta Kumar left Meesho to start his fintech venture, while Avasarala’s next career move is currently unknown. The company confirmed Avasarala’s departure and expressed gratitude for his significant role in shaping the product organization. A Meesho spokesperson said: «We thank Kirti for a very impressive 4-year tenure as Chief Product Officer at Meesho.»

Avasarala’s departure comes shortly after Meesho underwent a restructuring in his leadership team. Megha Agarwal, previously CXO of growth, has been appointed as the new CXO, of business.

The company has split Agarwal’s former role into three categories, assigning responsibility for user growth, product quality and maintaining net merchandise value (NMV) to various internal executives. Nilesh Gupta, Sourabh Pandey and Megha Agarwal continue to report to Aatrey, CEO of Meesho.

Meesho, the SoftBank-backed e-commerce platform, reported a 77 percent increase in operating revenue, from Rs 3,232 crore in FY22 to Rs 5,735 crore in FY23. At the same time, the company halved its losses from Rs 3,251 crore in FY22 to Rs 1,675 crore in FY23.Meesho is yet to submit its final results to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
