Melanie, the singer-songwriter who rose to fame after Woodstock and sang the chart-topping hit Brand New Key, has died aged 76.

Singer Melanie, who was best known for the massively popular singles Lay Down (Candles In The Rain), Brand New Key and the Rolling Stones cover of Ruby Tuesday, has died.

The singer’s children Leilah, Jeordie and Beau Jarred announced that she died on January 23 at the age of 76.

“Dear,” they began with the greeting their mother often preferred when writing to fans, “This is the hardest post for us to write and there are so many things we want to say first and there is no easy way. except I said it… Mom passed peacefully from this world and until the next day on January 23, 2024.»

They praised their mother as ‘one of the most talented, strong and passionate women of the time’, noting that ‘every word she wrote, every note she sang reflected that’.

Melania’s children have invited their fans to light a candle in their mother’s honor on Wednesday, January 24 at 10pm CET.

«Our world is much weaker, the colors of dreary, rainy Tennessee fade with her absence today,» they continued, «but we know she is still here, smiling down on us all, all of you, from the stars.»

The singer, whose full name is Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk, was remembered by her children Leilah, Jeordie and Beau Jarred, who announced in a Facebook post that she had died on January 23 at the age of 76.
