Neve Campbell is ‘so excited’ to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in the next Scream movie … after leaving the horror franchise over a pay dispute

Neve Campbell is «so excited» to return as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming seventh Scream film.

The 50-year-old actress debuted as the character in Wes Craven’s 1996 slasher film and reprized the role in four of its sequels.

However, the performer was absent from the franchise’s sixth feature film after negotiations over her salary fell through.

Campbell recently spoke with PEOPLE and expressed her dismay at having to sit through the latest release, Scream , which debuted last year.

«Those movies have been such a big part of my life and mean so much to me, and I was sad to miss the last one to not be a part of it,» she said.

However, the Twisted Metal actress said she was happy to have reached an agreement with the producers of the new film to reprise her role.

“I was really grateful that they came back to me with respect. I think it means a lot to women and society. I’m grateful to step into Sidney’s shoes again and tell her story,” she said.

Campbell then opened up about the impact Prescott had on longtime fans of the slasher franchise.

«I meet many fans who say that her strength has helped them through difficult times, and to some people it means more than I could ever imagine,» she said.

Development of the upcoming seventh film in the Scream franchise was revealed to the public in 2023, with Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet expressing hope that the series would continue in the future.
