NPFL: Sunshine Stars FC sack head coach and others

The management of Akure-based Sunshine Stars FC on Monday announced the sacking of their head coach, Edith Agoye, and three assistant coaches.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Bamidele Ologunloluwa, at a meeting with the team’s coaching staff in Akure.

Agoye and assistant coaches Akin Olowokere, Banjo Adepoju and Folorunsho Stephen were sacked at the meeting.

Ologunloluwa said the sacking came after poor form and several ultimatums given to the coaching staff by the management.

The commissioner said that he will not wait for the team to start fighting for relegation with their excellent matches.

According to him, the mandate given to the team was not fulfilled, even with all the support I gave the coaching staff, but unfortunately it has to happen.

«It won’t be as usual, I don’t want to fight for relegation anymore, it’s not about a witch hunt. Once the tech team is down, it’s all about hiring and firing, you know,” he said.

In his response, Agoye appreciated the commissioner for the opportunity to be the head coach and work with the team and wished the team good luck for the future.

«I can only wish the club the best for the future and I wish the future coach the best of luck,» he said.

Sunshine Stars are currently in 12th place with 22 points from 19 matches.
