Pep Guardiola insisted his players can handle the pressure and praised their temperament as Man City cruised to a 4-0 win over Fulham to move back to the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola insisted Manchester City have the temperament to prevail in the final week of this thrilling title race after ramping up the pressure on Arsenal.

City’s 4-0 win at Fulham this afternoon – with goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Josko Guardiola – means Mikel Arteta’s side can’t slip up when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Guardiola has two wins, against Tottenham and West Ham, since becoming the first ever manager to win four successive league titles in England – and his players look set to get the job done.

“Great players enjoy playing with a lot of pressure. And I feel they (City) like to play under pressure,» said Guardiola. «Incredible personalities. Otherwise you are not playing at that level and if you lose the game you lose the league.

“These players have done it in the last few years and we’re in the final stages again.

“Our dream is, as we said a few weeks ago when (Arsenal) lost against Aston Villa – to come into the last games with it in our hands. Playing West Ham at home with a destiny that belongs to us.

«We played really well and now we’re recovering, we’re going back to Manchester, then we’re going back to London to play the final (against Spurs), a big final to try and retain the title.»

Guardiola suggested the knitwear he wore on the line as the City boss looked warm in the 22-degree heat was just superstition.

‘(Hot?) A lot yes, but I’ve used this outfit many times so we’ll keep it as is. Even if it’s 45 degrees!”

City’s four-goal victory moved them to within two goals of Arsenal, which adds another layer to the two-horse race. Guardiol debated punishing Alvarez with a late penalty for an unexpected late hat-trick, but eventually stepped aside.

«Of course I would like it, but we have a dealer and he takes them,» Guardiol said. «Julian came in at the end and scored the goal.

«We just need to focus on ourselves and continue in this direction. Of course we talk about it (goal difference) and as you can see we are trying to get there. But it’s not easy, Arsenal also have quality.»
