Peter FitzSimons has called for a change to Australia’s national anthem after Dylan Wright’s State of Origin performance on Wednesday divided audiences.

After the performance, Peter argued that the hymn should be changed after Frnot the audience slammed the singer’s interpretation of the song.

“I thought the performance of our national anthem was terrible. Why not just stick to what it’s supposed to sound like?” the user wrote on X.

Peter reposted the comment saying: ‘Either that or get a decent anthem to work with and there can only be one choice: I am, you are, we are Australian.’

Other viewers were also horrified by the singer’s ‘devilish’, ‘hipster’ rendition of Scottish Australian composer Peter Dodds’ anthem.

However, other stars including Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson defended Dylan’s «remarkable» performance.

«That’s remarkable. A football crowd will let you know right away if you’re doing the right thing or the wrong thing and they loved it,” Kyle said Thursday.

Jackie agreed, adding: «I think the guy should sing the national anthem at every event.»

Australian Idol singer Ricki-Lee Coulter also praised Peter’s performance on Instagram, writing: ‘Absolutely nailed it!!!!!’

Meanwhile, other viewers flocked to social media to praise Dylan’s soulful rendition.
