Gary Neville believes Rasmus Hojlund will not become one of the Premier League’s best strikers at Manchester United and claimed the Dane could benefit from being the club’s second striker after struggling for goals.

The United striker has been in purple form at the turn of the year, scoring seven goals in six Premier League games, but has found the back of the net just once since.

Hojlund moved to Old Trafford for £72million from Italian side Atalanta last summer but struggled to find consistency in his debut year in the Premier League as he battled injuries, with United rarely looking a threat in front of goal.

Opposing fans have been keen to point out Hojlund’s poor goal return, with United manager Erik ten Hag also recently revealing that Harry Kane was his top choice before the England captain joined Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old learned on the job at United and is the club’s oldest striker, although he is yet to complete a full season in England’s top flight and former club icon Neville does not believe he will make it all the way to the top. the achievements of Erling Haaland and Sergio Agüero.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “I think this is a kid who needs to persevere. I looked at Ollie Watkins before that.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “I don’t think he will become Haaland or Aguero, one of the best strikers in the history of the Premier League.

“But it could be Ollie Watkins. You can look at someone like that, I think you can achieve 20 goals.’
