MailOnline reporter Mark Duell spoke to royal experts who claimed Prince Harry had been «beaten» by his father following a statement confirming the two men would not meet during the Duke’s visit to the UK.

After the duke’s spokesman admitted the meeting would not be possible «due to His Majesty’s full schedule», Richard Fitzwilliams said it would be «generally seen as an insult».

This is one of the biggest public rifts in the world. If it was handled in private without so much press speculation, it would have a better chance of being resolved.

The prodigal son is not welcome—at least not yet. Royally speaking, it is great medicine. Prince Harry must see it for what it is, the clearest possible indication of the injury that has been caused.
