Spain captain Alvaro Morata gives injury update on his fitness for Euro 2024 finals – and suggests the sliding tackle that injured him was worth a yellow card!

Alvaro Morata has given an update on his fitness ahead of the Euro 2024 final after he was bizarrely injured by security on Tuesday.

Spain beat France in the semi-finals in Munich last night as goals from Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo condemned Les Bleus to their fate after Randal Kolo Muani opened the scoring.

Morata, who captains La Roja, played 76 minutes of the encounter before being replaced later by Mikel Oyarzabal.

However, he was involved in a strange incident during Spain’s on-pitch celebrations after their place in Sunday’s final was confirmed.

As security swooped in to contain the attacker on the pitch, who was heading towards the Spanish players, he slipped and hit Morat in the knee.

The striker winced in pain in a worrying sight for Luis de la Fuente and his side.

Reports claimed Morata had sprained his knee, but the 31-year-old revealed his condition as he left a Spanish hotel on Wednesday morning.

The Atlético Madrid star informed reporters that his availability for the final was not at risk, according to Spanish outlet Marca, while also seeing the funny side of the incident.

«It was a yellow card and that’s it,» Morata joked.
