Stormy Daniels’ testimony so shocking it nearly derailed Trump’s trial: How porn star’s vivid claims about ‘spanking’, ‘condoms’, ‘STDs’ and ‘missionary position’ drew a barrage of objections before judge called her ‘difficult to handle’

The atmosphere inside Courtroom 1530 was already electrifying. A pensive Donald Trump stared at the press as if to gauge the size of his audience as prosecutors and defense attorneys argue over how much of the mechanics of his alleged affair could be presented to a jury.

Only no one anticipated how porn star Stormy Daniels would become a witness on the run when she described their meeting at a hotel in 2006.

“I had my dress and shoes. I believe my bra was still on. We were in a missionary position,” Daniels said.

Trump, 77, has already signaled his defense. «Objection,» said Susan Necheles, making her already numerous objection of the morning.

Until then, Daniels, 45, has taken us through her career as an erotic dancer, her first pornographic film («I’ll spare you the details,» she said) and her STD testing regimen (when she said she was dating Trump once a month twice a month).

At one point, Stormy Daniels flashed a small calf and leaned back, hand behind her head, as she demonstrated what she said was Donald Trump lying on a hotel bed in 2006.

The jury heard her talking about pornographic photos with a «mandatory condom», describing herself as having «blonde hair and big breasts» and slapping Trump with a rolled-up magazine.

But it was the two moments when she described not being able to remember how she ended up in a hotel bed with Trump and how he allegedly failed to get out of there that briefly threatened to derail the entire hush-hush case.

Either way, Daniels was determined to tell her story of how she met Trump at a celebrity golf event in 2006 before having sex with him and then selling the rights to her story just before the 2016 election.

And say she did…using all her acting skills, she performed it with waves of hands, pursed lips and wrinkling of the nose, interspersed with laughter as if to underline the absurdity of it all.

The jury listened to the flurry of words, enthralled. After Monday’s boring but crucial testimony about invoices and checks, Daniels was the stopper.

Some of the jurors had their eyes cast down as they took notes. The others looked mesmerized.

All eyes were watching her arrival in the courtroom on Tuesday morning. Even Trump reluctantly looked over as she arrived bundled up in a long black hooded top that reached beneath her skirt, glasses perched atop black-streaked blonde hair like the gothic librarian of a teenage boy’s dreams.

It was one of the few times Trump could see her. His view of her was obscured by the judge’s dais, forcing him to watch her testimony on his desktop monitor.

Daniels also avoided looking at him. She had to lean forward and turn in her seat to draw his attention when asked by prosecutor Susan Hoffinger.

The witness box could barely contain her as she staged a meeting with Trump at the Tahoe Hotel.

He was wearing satin pajamas when they met before she ordered him to change into something less comfortable.

They started with what is described as small talk between the porn star and the billionaire. After discussing adult film union representation, wrestling and STD testing, she said she walked through the master bedroom suite to use the bathroom.

She couldn’t help rummaging through his toiletry bag (think Old Spice and gold manicure set) before heading back to the bedroom. There was Trump sprawled out on the bed in just a t-shirt and boxers.

“Like this,” she said, lifting her right leg to flash her calf and stretching her left arm behind her head in a temptress pose.

At first she was started, ‘like a scarecrow from a jump’. The next thing she knew, she was on the bed.

«Was it short,» prosecutor Susan Hoffinger asked.

«Yes,» came the reply.

Trump was not wearing a condom, she said in a memo that the defense will try to use against her.

Trump was staring straight ahead with a frown.

Hoffinger tried to ask more about her memory and how much she remembered ending up on the bed.

But Trump was having none of it. He tapped his defense attorney on the arm, prompting a flurry of objections, which Judge Juan Merchan granted and asked that several responses be stricken from the record.

It was a reminder of how Daniels’ story has changed over time, from a consensual encounter to one that now suggested a more sinister side.

The topic came up again later when Daniels was asked why she kept it private.

«I’m ashamed I didn’t stop it,» she said. «that I didn’t say no.»

Daniels kept giving long answers to short questions. She explained her mental state and added a flurry of additional details, much to the judge’s frustration.

«Ms. Daniels, please keep your answers short,» he reminded her.

Other times he asked him just to answer questions that were put to her. And the court reporter, the prosecutor, and the judge all had to remind her to slow down because her words were coming in such a rapid stream that even a stenographer with a shorthand is struggling to keep up.

The result was a wealth of information that at times threatened to lead to new criminal charges.

Like when Daniels described wanting to meet Trump in a public club and not in his private office. «Lots of witnesses,» she said, prompting Necheles to raise her objection with a tired, «Your honor.»

And then there was the time in 2011 when a stranger approached her in a garage in Las Vegas and told her not to sell her story. It was a hint of a conspiracy that Trump’s allies wanted to silence her.

The defense saw their moment after lunch and asked the judge for contempt on the grounds that her testimony raised all sorts of extra questions in the minds of the jurors.

«This is the kind of testimony that is impossible to come back from,» defense attorney Todd Blanche said. «How can we come back from this in a way that is fair to President Trump?»

There was no need for her to mention that Trump wasn’t wearing a condom, he said, rather than «infuriate» the jury.

Merchan ruled that no harm had occurred. But the defense had a point, he added.

«There were a few things better left unsaid,» he said in his understated way

In fact, he added, he raised his own objection when the defense did not intervene.

«In fairness to (the prosecution), I think the witness was a little difficult to control,» he said.

That may be the only thing he and Trump, who has been a disaffected tdefendan since day one, will ever agree on.
