The Oscar-nominated filmmaker died Thursday in New York after a private battle with cancer.

His death comes nearly 20 years after Spurlock ate only at McDonald’s for a month to illustrate the dangers of fast food.

«Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity,» his brother Craig Spurlock said in a statement to ABC News.

Spurlock ate at the fast-food chain three times a day for 30 days — and wouldn’t allow himself to turn down the «super-size» option if he was invited.

His physical and mental health rapidly deteriorated, and by the end of the experiment he had gained 24.5 pounds.

The film was critically well received and grossed $22 million at the global box office, as reported by Variety.

Following the release of the film, McDonald’s discontinued its «oversized» variant.
