The-Dream is being sued for alleged sexual assault, abuse and trafficking by former protégé Chanaaz Mangroe


The-Dream has been accused of a series of disturbing allegations in a new lawsuit filed by former protégé Chanaaz Mangroe.

On Tuesday, Mangroe, 33, claimed the singer-songwriter, 46, subjected her to «violent sexual acts and severe psychological torture» during their past relationship.

In court documents obtained by People, the aspiring musician alleged The-Dream, born Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, lured her into a relationship with false promises to launch her music career.

She was 23 years old when, according to The-Dream, he led ‘a vulnerable artist into an abusive, violent and manipulative relationship» in 2015.

The-Dream is best known for writing top hits for Beyoncé, Rihanna and Mariah Carey.

The-Dream denied the allegations to The New York Times, calling them «false and defamatory.»

He also told the paper he was «deeply offended and saddened» by Mangroe’s allegations.

«These allegations are false and defamatory,» he said in a statement shared with his representative’s outlet.

“I am against all forms of harassment and have always tried to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these allegations.”

Mangroe, who went by the stage name Channii Monroe, filed the lawsuit in US District Court in Los Angeles.

In the filing, she claimed he «told her he was going to make her the next Beyoncé and Rihanna» with promises to support her music career.

However, he allegedly trapped her in an abusive relationship during which, she claims, he repeatedly raped and strangled her.

She also claimed she was a victim of revenge porn when he once filmed an intimate encounter and threatened to send it to other people.

Mangroe also shared a statement with The New York Times, saying that she was unable to pursue her dream of becoming a musician due to his alleged abuse.

«What Dream did to me made it impossible for me to live the life I envisioned and pursue my goals as a singer and songwriter,» she said.

«Eventually my silence became too painful and I realized that I needed to tell my story in order to heal,» she continued in the statement. «I hope this will help others and prevent future horrific abuse.»

The prolific songwriter has contributed to hits such as Rihanna’s Umbrella, Justin Bieber’s Baby and Mariah Carey’s Touch My Body.

He also helped score Beyoncé’s Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) and Break My Soul.

Having developed a close bond with Beyoncé, The-Dream has also been featured on every one of the 42-year-old superstar’s albums since 2008.
