The Mariners coach receives two yellow cards in 10 seconds and then gives a one-finger salute to the television cameras

Mark Jackson has praised the support of assistant Danny Schofield, who will miss the Central Coast grand final in the Mariners’ semi-final win over Sydney FC after being sent off and then twirling his middle finger in front of TV cameras.

Schofield received two yellow cards for protesting referee Alireza Faghani’s decisions in Saturday’s hard-fought clash in Gosford.

The Englishman was warned by Faghani to sit back on the Mariners bench after the first yellow card.

But after settling down for a split second, Schofield got up again and prompted Faghani to flash a second yellow card.

Danny Schofield received two yellow cards in the space of ten seconds for protesting referee Alireza Faghani’s decisions on Saturday night.

As Schofield was led away by security, the former Huddersfield Town manager made a lecherous gesture straight down the barrel of the broadcast camera.

His actions are likely to prevent him from being on the sidelines for next Saturday’s grand final meeting with Melbourne Victory, but Jackson said he will retain a vital role.

“What am I going to tell Danny? «Thanks for being by my side on this journey,» Jackson said.

«I thank him every day, he is a big part of what we do at this football club.

«He is an extremely talented coach. He understands the game and what we do and it’s an honor to have him by my side.»

Immediately after his ejection, Schofield began refining his vision to prepare the Mariners for their meeting with Tony Popovic’s Victory.

With or without his right arm in Schofield, Jackson has the chance to complete a remarkable treble at the Industree Group Stadium next Saturday.

The Mariners are likely to sell out the game and after wrapping up the AFC Cup and ALM premiership, victory over Victory would secure their third piece of silverware in a month.

“It’s a special place where everyone is working together and singing from the same hymn sheet about what we want to achieve.

“I’m so proud of the club, we’ve got one more game to go.

«For the first time we managed to secure a big final home stadium and I’m really proud.»
