Tiger Woods’ Las Vegas poker night was a ‘dream’, says Collin Morikawa … as PGA Tour star claims legend’s ego behind US Open mistake

Collin Morikawa has admitted playing poker with golf legend Tiger Woods was a ‘dream’.

Morikawa was invited to Woods’ star-studded Tiger Jam event in Las Vegas last week. Guests enjoyed golf and poker, among several activities that helped raise money for his foundation.

While Morikawa was impressed with Woods’ skills on the course during a clinic they held for young golfers, he was more raving about spending time with his idol at the poker table.

«I was lucky to have the opportunity to do something like that, to talk to him and have a chat,» Morikawa said.

‘Cause you go back and look at your 15-year-old self and say, ‘You spend a few hours with Tiger playing poker, hitting a few golf balls on the range, picking his brain, drilling.’ it’s a dream, isn’t it? That’s pretty cool then.’

While Morikawa boasted that he would hang out with Woods during all the events, he acknowledged that Woods’ «ego» could come to his detriment at the upcoming US Open.

Woods has played on the PGA Tour just three times since undergoing reconstructive ankle surgery in April 2023. He played in the Genesis Invitational, the Masters and the PGA Championship.

Although Woods still shows flashes of the skills that made him famous, there are doubts about his ability to complete 18 holes in 2021 with the lingering effects of a high-speed car crash.

«Yeah, but his ego is pretty big, like all of us,» Morikawa replied. “I think he wants to keep doing it until he can do it, and maybe there’s something about the golf cart that’s not there (for him). I’d take a golf cart if they’d let me.’

«The ability and the feeling are still there, aren’t they?» Morikawa added.

«So you don’t know, but you add that over 18 holes, over 72 holes and a whole week of preparation. The guy has been through a lot.’
