Villarreal have «revived interest in Man United winger Facundo Pellistri, with boss Erik ten Hag willing to let the Uruguayan international leave» three years after his £9m arrival

Villarreal have renewed their interest in Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri, according to a new report.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan joined the Premier League side in October 2020 for £9m but has struggled to break into the first team at Old Trafford, having made two loan moves to Spanish club Alaves.

It now looks like the winger could be the next star to leave Man United in the January transfer window, with manager Erik ten Hag willing to let Pellistri leave.

The Sun report that Villarreal are lining up a potential permanent move for Pellistri, who expressed an interest in the 22-year-old in the summer.

Since then, the Uruguay international has mostly been a bit player for the Red Devils, often coming off the bench but also finding his opportunities limited despite Man United’s struggles so far this season.

Two months ago, the Hag said: “For Pelli (Pellistri), he has to make the step up from the bench, often with very good impact, to starting XI.

«We’ll see how fast the process goes.»

The statement fueled rumors of another loan move, potentially to LaLiga Sevilla or Ligue 1 side Nice, owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently confirmed the purchase of a 25% stake in Manchester United.

However, Sevilla’s LaLiga rivals Villarreal offer a permanent option that could work for all sides.

Pellistri last started for Man United in September, despite the club’s significant problems up front, with the return of Amado Diallo adding to competition in the Uruguayan role and Alejandro Garnacho shining on the wings in a difficult campaign.
